GMA Trucking RFP Webinar

Clayton Gerber, Stacey McCluskey, and Sam Pearl Schwartz with the Center for Green Market Activation, joined by Cristiano Façanha and Quintin Barnes with Smart Freight Centre, hosted a webinar on January 17, 2024 to launch the GMA Trucking RFP, a pilot procurement initiative aimed at accelerating the decarbonization of heavy-duty freight transportation using a book and claim/buyers alliance model.

The goal of the webinar was to educate carriers, fleet operators, and logistics stakeholders about the GMA Trucking program and outline submission guidelines for the zero-emission trucking RFP.

It also explains the book and claim system, modeled after renewable energy certificates (RECs), which separates zero-emission freight attributes from physical truck routes. It enables shippers to claim Scope 3 emissions reductions even if their goods aren’t delivered by a zero-emission truck, and connects carriers to a set of customers willing to pay the so called “green premium” associated with zero emission trucking. This win-win approach helps support the transition to cleaner, more sustainable trucking solutions.
